Golden Raspberries,Lettuce and Peas, Oh My!

A view from my kitchen window...
Begs you to get out to pick these...
That is pretty much what our weekend was filled with.
Along with mowing the overgrown lawn, weeding the flower beds and garden.
Deadheading the flowers. The rain has everything looking soggy and sat upon.

We did have a small yard sale this weekend, while we weeded and all that.
It was pretty good for last minute, and we cleared out some much needed space.
I have big plans this summer, which is right around the corner, and I need to make some room.
We were able to harvest more lettuce, beet greens, swiss chard, some herbs, and the first of the
golden raspberries and peas. Snow peas and pod peas. Yum!

I have about a billion mosquito bites in places no bug should be, and Princess
and Farmer Dad? Not a one. He claims it is all that British "Blue Blood", I guess mine
is more Sicilian Marinara, cause the bugs sure LOVE me!
Can't you just feel summer coming closer when you see this cone flower getting ready to flower?
I am not sure how these roses still had petals it after the hard rains we had here.((hugs))KateinNJ

Asparagus ,Radishes and Spinach

The spinach is enjoying the cooler weather, as are the radishes

and the peas
The newest pear tree survived it's first winter in our little corner of the Garden State
and is happily nestled in the play area.

Farmer Dad prepares another bed for planting...

we made good use of the space to put some marigolds near the gate.

Some seedlings await their turn in the dappled sun.
Some of the green beans got planted next.

I really enjoy the hostas under these cedar trees.
We all worked so hard, that Pumpkin was exhausted from just watching from the window!
He's sleeping on the tablecloth meant for the side table next to him.
That is what I get for leaving the clean laundry sitting there. ;-)

Princess uses her new watering can (Thanks to the Easter Bunny)

the bushes are getting, well, bushy again.

I will be back tomorrow with more updates, and another bit of our little corner of the Garden State. Thanks for joining me..hope you liked the cake (Princess made it all by herself!)

It's Raining on My Birthday

Could I get a better gift than free water for my little garden?
I don't think so. Although a lap top would be nice too.lol
Read more about the celebration of International KateinNJ Day
here. My peas are up enough, that I can see them from my kitchen window.
It just doesn't get any better than that! At least not this early in our season.
I will get new photos up soon. For those of you who do not "know" me,
my Grandmother passed away recently, and the services will be this Saturday.
Her house is full of 60+ years of "stuff" to be cleaned out. I'm doing my best to help
my sister clean it. Life will go on,as it always does eventually, but for now I'm feeling
out of sorts. If you are lucky enough to live where it is raining, I hope you'll take some time
to go outside and enjoy it for just a bit today. If it is not raining where you are get outside and
just do your best to enjoy it..blue skies and all. For me. ;-)

Too busy to blog

Oh yeah, it must be spring! We have been starting seeds, weeding,
watching the bulbs come up, moving seedlings outside to the greenhouse

during the day and back in at night. It has been cold here at night!!
The rain came yesterday, hopefully it will lure my peas out of the ground.
So we don't have to do more of this...

I'll check on that a bit later today.

Isn't it pretty?

Where did Spring go?

It is too hot to be spring...isn't it?
We finally spread some mulch around the garden to
give the poor little plants a chance around here.
It is extremely important, as we water very little
around here. I have been visiting all of the gardening blogs
I can find (which means -way too much time on the computer)
and everything looks so green and all the lovely produce and
beautiful flowers!! I am green with envy.
Meanwhile I have roses that need deadheading and plants in pots that
do need some watering, and peas to be picked...the season is upon us.
Last night, while Farmer Dad spread mulch, I picked radishes and peas, and green
beans!! Our first green beans of the year!! I was so excited. I must make or buy some pirogies
and sour cream (nonfat plain yogurt will work too) to eat with them.Did I mention we have squash blossoms,
and corn silks? And more golden raspberries. Mmmm feels like summer
for sure!! So where did spring go?
And ..who did this???
Can you see the piece that has been chewed off? It was taller than Princess.
Oh well, could have been my bean plants and peas like last year......
