New Fence

Finally we have a slightly taller fence
that will hopefully keep the grounhogs out.
Farmer Dad even made a gate!
He is very proud of his handiwork,
especially since he only used bits and pieces
we had lying around. We still have a lot to do in
the yard to be ready for this year, but we are
getting a lot done as well.He plans on re-using
the old fence at the community garden plot.
This gate makes me miss our old arbor that
was taken out in a Nor'easter years ago.

Pear Trees

We planted two new pear trees on Easter Sunday.
One, is a Bosc Pear. Just like Nana had in her garden
when Farmer Dad was a boy.Can you see it?
The other an Ayers Pear. He just had to have it.It is in front of the forsythia.
This makes 3 pear trees in our tiny little corner of
the Garden State. 3. We also have two plums, here is one of them. two cherries, a fig and a bunch of trees that produce no fruit.
That is a whole lot of trees in our tiny little corner of the Garden State.

Seed starting assembly line style

Farmer Dad and Princess started some seeds this past Saturday.
Lettuce and such....






I checked them yesterday, and they are starting to poke out already!

Spring is almost here!

The sun was shining, the sky was clear, and we were out and about to see
what was growing in our little corner of the Garden State.
We found a lot more green than last time I brought the camera outside.
Bulbs are coming up, crocus and snowdrops are blooming.
The forsythia is getting ready for the big show it likes to put on for my birthday.;-)

The cherry ,pear and plum trees are putting buds on, and the primrose is ready to
break out from under a pile of leaves. Even the roses are getting ready to come alive again.
It just makes me feel good to see the fruit bushes getting ready to come around to another growing
season. Here is the new red raspberry bush we just planted.

It was a great day to walk outside and see what was happening all around the yard.

Spring is just around the corner

bits of green are popping up all over and we have a pile of
organic seed ready to start!
P and I started some lettuce seed and they are sprouting like crazy...
