If he could have reached them, you would see his teeth marks in them. He takes a bite out of each one he can reach.....can't he just eat one whole one? Can't he just climb into the trap we have set? Can't he just go each somewhere else?
The first year we were at this place, I couldn't keep the chickens out of the garden. I wasn't prepared for their persistence. We had a peck or two out of each within reach tomato. I, too, wanted to know why they didn't go ahead and finish a tomato before moving on to the the next. I know how frustrated you are.

Thanks Wisteria, isn't it frustrating? I wouldn't mind it so much if he were actually eating them,
the one bite out seams destructive.
