The sun is shining

and all the plants are outside for some fresh air.

It is warming up enough to open the windows
and walk outside without a coat. The greens are enjoying it,

and the crocuses are out.

Yesterday was still gray and snow covered.
But the cardinals were at the feeder, and that always brightens my day.

The same could be said of this lovely Paper white sitting on the kitchen table.
The living room will have a bit of bloom to cheer it soon as well.
These plum branches are just about ready to open up.

We might have been inside keeping warm, but ,George, the "cat next door"

was hard at work, patrolling the grounds. Don't fear for the birdies, he is not a bird cat.

He takes care of any rodents, the doves and other birds don't mind him a bit.

Maybe, because he has birds in his house, he does not bother the wild birds.Or, maybe there are enough rodents in the neighborhood to satisfy his need to hunt.

Seedlings and snow

Farmer Dad picked up a new light for the seedlings.

we thinned some

watched the resident Cardinal visit the new birdfeeder

Spring was in the air, although it got much colder Sunday than Saturday.
Then it snowed.

Schools and businesses closed on Monday. We had a snow day with Farmer Dad
as his business was closed for the day. Too fluffy to build, but fun to play in.

Wildlife

Our yard, I have been told, is filled with wild life.
We are pretty used to the critters who share our home,
but visitors keep pointing out that there are so many.
I took pictures over a time span of about thirty minutes,
here is some of what we saw....

see the squirrel in the have -a- heart trap, (I expected to see the ground hog).
Our resident Mr. Cardinal. (the Mrs. is harder to capture on film)Mr Blue Jay.
Flipper (who allows P to feed him/her clover)

Flipper's bud (or baby..we're not sure)
I had a harder time capturing the Robin family sitting in the pear tree feeding their fledglings,
or the elusive chipmunks who are everywhere all at once.
Thankfully, we are in the middle of the block, so we do not get deer and we have never had a bear,
unlike some of you, although one or two people have thought that was what the ground hog was.
We do get a lot of birds...

There are also other nocturnal animals underground who we never see, although we have a pretty good idea that they are here. They are all welcome, as long as the don't eat more than their fair share of the veg or berries,
or my flowers!! ;-)

Thursday musings

We picked a basket full of peas today.
Beautiful snow peas. It was hard not to eat them
all before we got inside, but we did it.
It has stopped raining, but is still very wet here.
Princess and I checked the herbs we planted
in pots the other day and the sweet potato we
put into another planter. We had also replaced the
purple cone flower in her butterfly garden that the Ground Hog
had eaten the top off of.I have not seen him back, but the replacement
plant was still there, so I'm guessing he found another place to dine,
or my neighbor captured him. There are several gardeners who will
try all season to catch these little buggers in our neighborhood.
The call to bring out the have a heart traps has already spread,
so I am sure we are all prepared. The birds, meanwhile have been having a lovely time
"smelling the flowers"
